Procurity Receives
National Community Champion Award
from Canadian Cancer Society
(Winnipeg, MB – July 12th, 2012) – Wayne and Cheryl Rivers, as well as staff, management and suppliers of Procurity, were the honoured beneficiaries of the Community Champion Award from the National Division Council of The Canadian Cancer Society.
For years, this team has volunteered and provided resources to help the Cancer Society fulfill its mandate of eradicating cancer and enhancing the lives of those who live with the disease. In the past five years, Wayne and Cheryl Rivers have lead Procurity initiatives to help the Cancer Society raise more than $1.1 million through their annual “Make Cancer History Gala Ball.”
At the awards ceremony, Mark McDonald, Executive Director of the Manitoba Division of the Cancer Society, praised the Rivers’ for their hands-on volunteering approach, “From giving thousands of hours of their time, shining auction items, setting up tables, folding chairs, selling corporate tickets and sponsorships - this all the work that goes into making not only profitable fundraisers, but also successful events.” said McDonald.
Wayne and Cheryl Rivers and Procurity were honoured during a private reception and award ceremony held in Winnipeg at the Society’s Manitoba Division offices on June 28, 2012.
“Our support goes beyond being charitable, it’s about creating a philosophy, culture and commitment to philanthropy within the organization that benefits everyone, especially Manitobans and their families who are fighting and surviving cancer,” says Wayne Rivers.
“This is the first time in a number of years that Manitobans have been recognized with this national award,” says Lynda Ruben, Manager of Personal Giving with the Cancer Society. “Because of their generosity and commitment to the Canadian Cancer Society many Manitobans have been helped in their fight against cancer.”
The Community Champion Award was established in 2002, and was last awarded in Manitoba, to the Manitoba Lotteries Corporation back in 2004.
