PREPARING FOR THE FLU

Many people are worried about developing a flu this year.  Yet few people think to prepare in advance before they get sick.

Making a home flu kit is one way to be sure you're not caught unprepared.  Make sure you have the following items in your home:

  • thermometer
  • facial tissues
  • soap and water
  • iburofen (i.e. Advil) or acetaminophen (i.e. Tylenol or Tempra) - do not give ASA (i.e. Aspirin) to children and teens

If you're a parent, plan for someone to look after you or your children if you are ill and offer to provide them with the same support.  You should have a back-up plan in the unlikely event that your primary caregivers get the flu.  You should also identify family members, friends or neighbours who may be living alone and call them regularly to see if they need help dealing with the flu.
